Attwell began his career as an intern at the Independent Mediation Service of South Africa (IMSSA), focusing on RBO research, followed by 5 years at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) as a Commissioner and trainer for bargaining councils. As a seasoned panellist, he adeptly oversaw RBOs, section 197 disputes, and the merging of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), provided training on collective bargaining/negotiation and facilitated strategy sessions with Exco Teams.
Attwell’s work with multinational companies has given him exposure to globally established best practices in procedures, processes, principles, practices, and policies that govern coaching, training and facilitation.

In his role as a training facilitator, he favours making use of adult learning methodology that involves engaging the participants through activities such as practical exercises, quizzes and simulations, where applicable. Attwell believes that training requires a particular consciousness which is based on a growth mindset and respect for the participants.
